  • In those times of ruptures and collapse, the artists recall Orpheus, whose heartbreak over the death of Eurydice, led to his horrific demise at the hands of Maenads, who dismembered him in a fit of fury and scattered his body parts. And yet, despite all that, Orpheus’ decapitated head continued to sing.
Voices, exhausted yet resolute, persist in singing in a choir of hopefulness, forming a collective tune that rises from ruins and debris. Fragments of verse, projected onto layers of broken and salvaged glass, make manifest poetry as a weapon and shield against annihilation. To quote Paul Celan,“A poem, is what says: can you hear?”

Fragments of poems around Orpheus from Virgil, Ovid, Tristan l’Hermite, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Victor Hugo, Louise-Victorine Ackermann, Jean-Charles Leconte, Paul Valéry, Rainer Maria Rilke, Georg Trakl, Etel Adnan, Ingeborg Bachmann.

Voices: Haig Aivasian, Youmna Bou Hadir, Patrick Chackar, Joana Hadjithomas, Charbel Kamel, Rasha Salti, Lama Sawaya.
