Part 2. Postcards of War
Postcards of war
“Postcards of war” is the second part of the project Wonder Beirut
A project by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige,
drawn from the work of Abdallah Farah: “The story of a pyromaniac photographer”.
18 postcards of war
A selection of pictures taken between 1968 and 1969 then burned between 1975 and 1990 by the photographer depending on the shelling and destruction caused by armed conflicts.
By publishing and distributing these images, we are trying to fight the trend which puts the Lebanese civil war between brackets and includes the Lebanese conflict only marginally in our contemporary history, and which prefers to idealize the past and project itself into a uncertain future.
“Postcards of war” has been produced in the following places:
ZKM (Karlsruhe, Germany),
Le quartier, Centre d’art contemporain de Quimper (France)
Insa Art space, Alternative space pool (Seoul)
Modern Art Oxfort, Museum of Contemporary Art (Oxford) UK
Espace Louis Vuitton, Fondation Louis Vuitton
Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt, Germany
SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, USA)
Baibakova Art Projects, Moscow, Russia
Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan
Wonder Beirut (1997-2006) is a multi-stage project which also includes:
