    Part 3 of Khiam project
Photographic prints on baryté paper (30 x 38 cm), Series of 9 photographs
  • These images, each of which was photographed according to the same set-up, show military vehicles which were used during the occupation of South Lebanon and repeatedly destroyed during various wars and for various reasons.

In 2000, for example, they were destroyed because of their function; used by the Israeli military to control and damage space. Following the liberation of the South of Lebanon from Israeli occupation, the vehicles were put on display at Khiam, a detention camp turned-museum. In 2006, during the war between Hezbollah and Israel, the museum and the vehicles were destroyed in airstrikes, this time due to their symbolic meaning or, perhaps, as collateral damage.

Occupying these two utilitarian positions simultaneously, these military vehicles appear anachronic and pathetic. These dual positions also create a temporal shift; indicating a former war while witnessing a new one.

They also cause a temporal shift : they are the indicators of a former war, the witnesses of a new one.
