Sarcophagi, 2019
Part 7 of Unconformities project Sculpture, 16 materials, Various dimensions - DescriptionSince time immemorial, sarcophagi have been fabricated from a variety of materials used to protect bodies from decay but also allowing them to survive the chaos that human and nature can provoke. The sarcophagus is a membrane that separates two temporalities, both isolating and connecting irreconcilable space-times. Inspired from the idea of the sarcophagus as a protective shield, especially at sensitive sites, the sculpted cores evoke the process of ceaseless accumulation of activity, the history of their materialities and meta-materialities, from the earliest cement or entropic fabrics to the most recently uncovered findings. The sculpture offers a speculation about the matters that will be used in future constructions, and which, in their turn, might need a sarcophagus for their preservation.
